Raindrop

What’s a Girl Got to Do to Get a Little Attention?

   Raindrop here.
I’m mad at my mom.

I stole her computer.
Dragged it in my house.
And decided to blog about it.

Mom’s in town this week - so what about me?

I was a good girl.
I guarded her for hours.
And Mom petted that darn computer all day – ignoring me!

I wanted some attention.

I barked.
I jumped up by her feet.
I batted the [...]

A Very Bee Kind of Summer

   For the D’Amours
Everywhere we turn there are bees.

First Raindrop’s allergic reaction.
James’ discovery of three colonies.
Now this weekend.

We visited the little local bakery.

Sat on the bench eating our treats.
Relaxing in the weekend morn.
Enjoying the scenery.

A man cut the sunflowers in front of the bakery.

Raindrop charmed him.
(Definitely a dog lover.)
He returned with a sunflower for Raindrop.

We [...]

Raindrop Scared Two Big College Guys

   Typical crossed wires.
Raindrop likes to snooze in the chair on our porch.

It’s one of her favorite summer activities.
Especially during the day when other dogs are in their houses.
It’s a lazy way to pass the time.

Today two college guys walked up to flyer our porch.

They didn’t see Raindrop.
They were loud in their approach.
And woke her.

Raindrop [...]

The House is Too Quiet

   I miss her.
Raindrop is at Camp Grandma this week.

Raindrop’s deathly afraid of fireworks.
They started going off last weekend in our neighborhood.
My parents live in a less explosive area.

I didn’t realize how much I would miss Raindrop.

Sure, she sits and stares at me when I work from home.
And we have early morning negotiations.
(She lets me [...]

Raindrop Was Attacked

   My heart sunk.
James picked me up at the airport late last night.

I had been going for five days.
Facilitated ADA’s Leadership Institute.
Very tired and dreaming of bed.

“I’ve got some bad news…”

I clenched – who died or was sick?
Mom? Dad? Raindrop?
Whew! All were alive.

Then James told me Raindrop was attacked by another dog on Saturday.

The [...]

My World Had Shrunk

And I didn’t realize it.
Raindrop here.

I live in a neighborhood with lots of dogs in it.
But over the winter, many of us stay inside more.
For months, I only saw the dogs that live across the street.

Recently dogs started walking their owners again.

I didn’t like seeing them near my yard.
I made a lot of noise.
Mom started barking at me!

Mom [...]

I’m in the Doghouse Again

   Not fair!
It started a few days ago.

I could tell they were near.
But I didn’t get to investigate.
Dad kept me busy.

Today I got my chance.

First I helped Dad mow the yard.
Then we barbequed dinner together.
Which meant I got to explore the backyard.

Dad left me alone for a few minutes.

He took the meat in the house.
It was all the [...]

She Cowered in the Corner

   And shook with fear.
Raindrop didn’t understand what was going on.

One minute I was screaming loudly.
The next had tears streaming.
Then moaning again.

My focus was on Michigan State losing the NCAA Championship game.

Her focus was on me.
What was wrong with the alpha dog?
Raindrop didn’t know what to do.

She ran to her “safe spot” near the kitchen.

Wouldn’t come out [...]

She Knew We Were Talking About Her

  For she is She.

Raindrop is a pretty intelligent girl.

  • She knows her name.
  • She knows we sometimes call her “the dog.”
  • Until this weekend, we didn’t realize she also knew about “She” too.

James and I were talking and used “she” in a sentence.

  • I noticed Raindrop’s ears perking up.
  • She heard she again.
  • Began…

Tricks for Treats

  And irresistible options.

It’s time for Raindrop to learn a new trick.

  • She has memorized my normal requests.
  • She speaks before I ask.
  • And drops into a down position.

I want to teach her how to shake.

  • I tell her to sit.
  • I tap her paw and say shake.
  • She doesn’t listen.

Raindrop wants to get to…

I Almost Killed Myself Today

But Mom and Dad saved me.

Raindrop here – and alive.

This morning, Mom and Dad were ignoring me.

  • They ate breakfast.
  • Started talking about goals for 2009.
  • How boring!

I decided to find something more fun to do.

  • And hit the jackpot.
  • You’ll never believe what I found.
  • A bag of Zingerman’s brownies!

Life was good!

  • Two pounds…

I Can Tell Something is UP…

 And I don’t like it.

It’s Raindrop and I’m frustrated tonight.

They are ignoring me – I don’t get it.

  • Dad is hustling.
  • Mom looks tired.
  • What’s going on???

It doesn’t feel normal.

  • I can’t figure it out.
  • Do I need to worry?
  • Can you help me?

Who the heck is Hawaii?!

As Mom always says, makes me think of…

The Turkey vs. The Skunk

 Â

And the skunk won.

Raindrop here.

Thanksgiving is usually one of my favorite days – this year was a different story.

We started out at Grandma and Grandpa’s.

  • Lots of good food.
  • Got to play with my cousin Tootie.
  • Life was good.

Then we went over to Aunt Angie’s and Uncle Dave’s.

  • No other dogs or…

It’s Snowing Before Thanksgiving!

  And Mom didn’t even notice.

Raindrop here.

Mom has been consumed by finishing her Lazy Leader book.

  • She worked all day.
  • She didn’t play with me.
  • I’ll be glad when she sends it away tomorrow!

Today was our first real day of snow.

  • The grass was white.
  • It was cold outside.
  • Dad made me wear my coat…

BatGirl Strikes Again

 Raindrop here.

It’s Halloween so it’s time for my annual gig as BatGirl.Â

Between us, I feel dumb with fake wings tied around my tummy.

  • But, there are perks to looking silly.
  • Mom and Dad get really happy.
  • And I get to go trick or treating twice in one day.

I’m used to doing…
