5 Ways Clarity Can Replace Control

It’s one of the things Clay Shirky said at ASAE09–control is a thing of the past. Scott Briscoe talks a little about [...]

[You're reading http://BenMartinCAE.com. Yeah, you rock.]

This would definitely qualify as a frequently asked question, so rather than explain it, let me show you how to do it:

Not one, but TWO association-specific Digg-like sites launch this week

[You're reading http://BenMartinCAE.com. Actually, right now you're just reading the RSS post header.]

I’m not a big Digg fan, mostly becuase a lot of the stuff I would like to share (association stuff, mostly) gets buried by all of the tech, celebrity, political and environmental news that appears front and center on the site. Perhaps these [...]

[You're reading http://BenMartinCAE.com. Actually, right now you're just reading the RSS post header.]

These days, it seems like everyone’s got an opinion about social media. Trouble is, opinions don’t go very far in helping associations determine which strategies and tactics they should employ as they seek to capitalize on the…

Avoid embarrassment: Update your website copyright notice

[You're reading http://BenMartinCAE.com. Actually, right now you're just reading the RSS post header.]

Today’s the first day of 2009. Make sure your website and e-mail broadcast templates no longer have footers that say “© 2001-2008″, or something like that.

I Can’t Hear You…

 But I can see you.

Something happened today…

  • One of my ears swelled internally.
  • It feels like a water balloon in there.
  • I can’t hear with that ear.

I’ve had this ear challenge before.

  • It’s a pain.
  • Will eventually go away.
  • (Thankfully I don’t have to fly this week!)

Not hearing with one ear makes conversations interesting.

  • I see…

More on Community Management

Check out this post by my blogger buddy Dennis McDonald on whether everyone in an organization should have customer service responsibilities. He picked up on my earlier comment about community management, where I said that community management should be part of everyone’s responsibility who deals directly with customers or members.

I am…

Why be boring…

…when you can be creative? Turn a 404 “not found” page into something that makes people smile. Twitter does this really well.

If you KNOW some things are annoying, what can you do to make them less so? Like, say, a dues renewal notice…? Hmmmm….

More on how huge this is…

“Obama-Biden Transition Project Co-chair John D. Podesta announced that all policy documents from official meetings with outside organizations will be publicly available for review and discussion on Change.gov”.

If they can do it, so can we all. Give your stakeholders a seat at the table.

“Transparency is the process that leads to…

Ask the CAE: Embedding audio file onto a web page

[You're reading http://BenMartinCAE.com. Hooray for RSS!]

Today I got this question from a reader:

Overcompensating for something?

[You're reading http://BenMartinCAE.com. Hooray for RSS!]

Here in Richmond, one of the major topics of conversation is the financial woes of Richmond-based consumer electronics chain Circuit City. You probably know all about the 150 stores being closed nationwide, but you might not know that they’ve laid off 500-800 workers at…

[You're reading http://BenMartinCAE.com. Well, isn't that special?]
