I Looked Like a Fool…

 And didn’t appreciate it.

Today I had a lunch meeting with a business colleague.

  • We both love sushi.
  • I suggested the restaurant.
  • I arrived a few minutes early as I was hosting the lunch.

The parking lot was pretty empty.

  • I drove by the door.
  • Saw they opened at 11:30 AM.
  • I found a nice parking space.

Finally 11:30…

The Economy is Not the Problem!

   A lack of respect is.

As part of my new year’s resolution, I’ve been mall walking a lot.

  • Doing the same route every day.
  • Let’s me see more than the casual shopper.

Recently I observed two differnt service providers beg desperately for business.

  • And at the same time, chase customers away.
  • By their actions.
  • I can’t believe…

I Can’t Hear You…

  But I can see you.

Something happened today…

  • One of my ears swelled internally.
  • It feels like a water balloon in there.
  • I can’t hear with that ear.

I’ve had this ear challenge before.

  • It’s a pain.
  • Will eventually go away.
  • (Thankfully I don’t have to fly this week!)

Not hearing with one ear makes conversations interesting.

  • I see…

I Almost Killed Myself Today

But Mom and Dad saved me.

Raindrop here - and alive.

This morning, Mom and Dad were ignoring me.

  • They ate breakfast.
  • Started talking about goals for 2009.
  • How boring!

I decided to find something more fun to do.

  • And hit the jackpot.
  • You’ll never believe what I found.
  • A bag of Zingerman’s brownies!

Life was good!

  • Two pounds of…

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from our family to yours!

  • Cynthia
  • James
  • And Raindrop (of course!)

Makes me think of chapter leaders…what would Santa bring your chapter when he looks at your achievements for 2008 - a lump of coal or fabulous gift?

The Christmas Eve’s Eve Story

   A new movie perhaps?

I’ve been in a bit of a bah-humbug mood this week.

  • Not totally sure why.
  • Maybe a touch of leftover jet lag from Hawaii?

Anyhow, I’m my grumpy self and someone pounds on the door.

  • The doorbell doesn’t work.
  • (To keep things quiet if I’m on a biz call.)
  • We weren’t expecting anyone.

Standing…

A Farewell to Cheers

   At least my version.

One of the great finds of Ann Arbor was the restaurant around the corner from where we live.

  • The food was great.
  • Everyone knew my name.
  • I felt special whenever I went in there.

James and I like to support local businesses.

  • This was a perfect fit.
  • We did a lot of…

Bursting with Pride!

My mentoree just got her first CEO position.

About a year ago, she called to talk to me about speaking at her association’s leadership conference.

  • We had some fun conversation.
  • And clicked quite naturally.

She started to send me periodic emails.

  • She’s a sharp thinker.
  • I got a kick out of challenging her to stretch.

A…

Strangers Rock with Kindness

   In Ann Arbor.

He didn’t want his photo taken.

  • He was a shy man.
  • Maybe 25 years old.
  • Talked like he was much younger.

Yesterday afternoon the phone rang.

  • James was out.
  • It was telemarketer time.
  • I debated whether or not to answer it.

“I have your cell phone.”

  • I didn’t understand what he was saying.
  • And made him repeat…

The Back Tells All

   Much to my surprise!

Attempting to tone down my jet lag, I got a massage yesterday.

  • I’ve been getting them monthly for about a year.
  • I tend to run at a pretty crazy pace.
  • The commitment forces me to stop to breathe.

I wondered how my back would feel after my Hawaii trip.

  • Two 11-hour plane trips.
  • A…

I’ve Got a Time Zone Hangover!

   Need help!

I’ve been traveling for 12 years.

  • Regularly bee-bopping across the country to speak at leadership conferences.
  • But never more than a three-hour time zone difference.

Last week I quickly flipped my body clock the five hours difference to Hawaii Time.

  • I stayed up late.
  • Often laughing about going to bed after the time I would…

Aloha and Farewell…

  Time to come home.

I spent the last week in Hawaii doing some professional development.

  • Heard from top speakers in their area.
  • Including Robert Bradford - THE strategic planner for mid-sized companies.
  • And Kirstin Carey - sales and marketing expert for creative entreprenuers who want to grow their businesses.

Had several adventures.

  • From seeing one of the prettiest beaches in the world.
  • To…

Rainy Day Adventures

    Kept me on my toes!

The last 24 hours saw some of the fiercest storms Honolulu has seen in a while.

I woke up very early to:

  • No electricity.
  • No water.
  • Storms raging.

It put me in a bit of a panic.

  • My cell phone was dead.
  • I had no bottled water in the room.
  • And no food.

Did I also…

Give Me a Break!

   This is it?

I’m still in Hawaii at the seminar.

Yesterday we went to lunch as a group.

  • A local guy offered to pick the restaurant.
  • We loaded in the car.
  • Drove all over Honolulu.

Pulled up to a place called Zippy’s.

  • Zippy’s???
  • It looked like a well-worn diner.
  • Generic food here we come.

I was even less excited…

Paradise, Schmaradise!

  Joke was on me.

I’ve always heard Hawaii described as a slice of paradise.

I think I got off at the wrong airport when I arrived last night.

  • I didn’t get lei’d by anyone.
  • The traffic was outrageous.
  • My hotel felt like Las Vegas on mini-steroids.

Talk about feeling disappointed!

This morning was not any better.

  • My…
