That’s Not How We Do Things
Growing up, men mowed yards on Saturday or Sunday night.
- The weekend was for yard work.
- My dad mowed Saturday morning to free the weekend.
- Many mowed Sunday night.
Fast forward to walking Monday night.
- I saw three people mowing their yards.
- Within one block.
- All looked around early 30s.
Personally, I don’t care when people mow.
- I’ve got a pretty fluid life myself.
- But I can imagine what some might say…
Why Monday night instead of during the weekend?
- Were they gone?
- Having fun?
- Being lazy?
And what’s up with mowing during the week?
- Why did they leave work early?
- Don’t they want to get promoted?
- What’s wrong with them?
Wake up folks - we don’t lock step our lives any more.
- Women may have babies some time before mid-40s.
- We change jobs as needed or wanted.
- Technology supports worldwide connections.
It’s no longer all the people, at the same time.
Makes me think of chapter leaders…how does your chapter embrace members who have more choices about how to spend their time?
