The Man in a Blue Suit Sat Next to Me
Peggy Hoffman tagged me in blog game - a meme.
- To talk about word of mouth marketing.
- As it relates to play.
- What better than a pedicure?
Yesterday I’m at the spa and my pedicure is almost done.
- I’m just waiting for the polish on my toes to finish drying.
- In walks a businessman.
- Looking sort of flustered.
He plops down in the chair next to me.
- He nervously talks to his pedicure person.
- As he rips of his shoes and socks.
- His girlfriend made him do this.
The pedicurist (is that the right term?) fuels his nerves.
- She interrupts him to ask questions to determine which pedicure will be best for him.
- She demands to know,  ”Are your feet dry?”
- “Compared to what?” he asks.
I can see his fluster growing.
- He doesn’t get the questions.
- He doesn’t know what to expect.
- “This is my first time!” he sputters.
The pedicurist is too new to know what to do.
- She’s trying to follow the process she’s been taught.
- She ignores his growing anxiety.
- Neither of them are having fun.
She walks away to get his foot bath.
He looks miserable.
- I lean over and give him some advice before I leave.
- “Roll up your pants and just let go for the next hour.”
- He smiles weakly at me.
I will bet a shiny quarter he’s not going to rave about his experience.
- He’ll grumble to his girlfriend who sent him there.
- She’ll complain to her friends about his poor treatment.
- She may find a new place get her own pedicures done.
The word of mouth started to rev up the moment he walked in the door.
Makes me think of chapter leaders…what do your guests say after their first experience with your chapter?
