Tagged in the Volunteerism meme!
Meme-tastic! Peggy Hoffman has started another meme, this time on Volunteerism and associations, to go along with a fantastic un-session planned for Great Ideas. Check out the details here.
I have to keep this short today so I’ll just answer the tag – which is,
“To get the conversation going, I’m tagging the following bloggers to help answer a nagging question – how can we create volunteer jobs that don’t require being on a committee, a long-term commitment or gobs of time? So, share five short-term, ad-hoc volunteer jobs you’d love to have and then tag five more bloggers”.
So, as you may have figured out, I am one of those annoying “doers”, so the five top volunteer jobs I’d love to have are things I’ve taken it upon myself to do already for ASAE…
1. Host a happy hour on behalf of an association – or better yet, an 80’s Dance Party
2. Be a judge in a competition
3. Build some blogger buzz around a conference
4. Mentor
5. Beta test, beta test, beta test!
I will say though, and I think this is pretty important, that for most of this stuff I did not wait around to be asked. I just thought it would be cool so I got crackin’. Which basically addresses the first part of Peggy’s meme question: I think all associations (and nonprofits!) should create a friendly space around themselves where people are not afraid to come up with fun or useful stuff they can do without going through channels. Even better, come up with a place people can share ideas as well as needs or requests for help… Hmmmmm… :)
So on to my tags!
