Last week, our nice crowd of regulars were joined by Stefanie Gans aka @gansie, of the totally awesome food blog Endless Simmer (also on Twitter). Which I LOVE, because they always feature my favorite food - eggs. Yum. Anyway - we had a pretty in depth discussion around monetizing social spaces - e.g. the demise of the banner ad versus targeted advertising on Facebook. And how to get sponsorships in social spaces. And cause-related fundraising widgets like Chipin. All of which I would say is still a little up in the air but you gotta learn by doing. And it's not a bad idea to cut one direct mail piece and see how far you might get by diverting those marketing dollars towards something different, something more WOM. Just a thought...
